New (Beauty) Additions

New Additions March

In the last three years, I’ve really tried to really be discerning with additions to my collection because it’s the first thing anyone ever notices when they enter my room. I’ve been generally pretty good with keeping to it and only making necessary purchases (although I do get a little naughty when The Big Four – Maybelline, Revlon, Rimmel and L’Oreal do their 50% off lip promotions) With Spring rolling in, it was definitely time for some new additions.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Honey Eau de Parfum
This is a perfume I had been dying to get my hands on ever since its release and I’ve owned quite a few testers (the mall I frequent is really generous with samples) of this product to know absolutely that I adore how this smells on my skin. It is a very warm and welcoming day-scent that I wear to interviews or lunch dates and generally does me well. It wears much better than my Eau so Fresh (another new product in my collection) and is a nice mix of floral and fruity, with emphasis on the fruity. The citrus and pear really pop when you first spray it on. If you’re looking for the scent of honey, this is not the way to go. I would say this is evocative of honey in its warmth.

Phytovolume Actif Volumizing Spray (Available @ airplay)
I have always been a fan of Phyto – their phytodefrisant is a product I swear by during Winter to keep those pesky flyaways in place yet their volumizing spray really surprised me too. It creates just that extra bit of volume and smells like you’ve just walked out of a salon. No fuss, excellent. It also lasts surprisingly long to my absolute delight and leaves my hair still feeling like Hair, unlike the Aveda spray I used to own.

Guerlain Terracotta Terra Nerolia
A holy grail product I’ve had since October and a total impulse buy. If you’re looking for just a hint of peach and lots of warmth then this is the blush for you. A matte blush, this manages to blend seamlessly on my skin and despite popular opinion, I do think the gold over-spray adds a little extra brightness. Unfortunately, this was part of their summer limited edition line last year, so I’m not entirely sure how you can get your hands on this.

MAC Cream Sheen in Peach Blossom
This was a limited edition MAC cream sheen that just became permanent. A recommendation by Vivianna, she likens this to the lovechild of Hue and Shygirl mixed with the browns with Patisserie, so a great neutral for you cool-toned girls. This reads semi-opaque with a light frost running through this and is one I would turn to for a more sophisticated occasion, probably for a meeting or job interview.

Stila Smudgestick Eyeliner in Espresso (available @ Dudes)
Another impulse buy, I was actually looking to buy the Urban Decay 24/7 liner, but after swatching both on my hands I found that this had better staying power and honestly didn’t move for a good 8 hours (for me, that’s basically a miracle). A pity that there is so little product in this (at a measley 0.01oz) but it glides smoothly on with a great pay-off.

Brazilian Blowout

AirplaySo I was lucky enough to be invited to a ‘brazilian blowout’ in Central today. It was a great experience, part of Phyto’s release in Hong Kong. I had actually tried a couple things here and there from Phyto before and had a great experience (to this day, their anti-frizz is the best that I have ever used and is a staple for me).

Airplay (2)

I had the chance to try out a couple things and one of the first things I’ve noted is how heavenly it all smells. Unfortunately, I don’t think that the hairspray or volumizer is well suited for Hong Kong’s humid weather however I do think that they are great for milder or drier climates.

On the experience, the staff was really nice and I think the blowout was not bad. My favourite thing about this experience is that the sinks in Airplay are adjustable so the horrible half-sit up post-hairwashing is eliminated. The location I do think is a little awkward but if you’re looking for a quick pick-me-up in the middle of the day, this would be a pretty good place to go for a mid-afternoon pamper session.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Summer Wish List

Summer Wish List

Top L to R: Moschino Cheap & Chic Piano Key-print stretch-crepe mini dress $3100, Givenchy Tyson High-top sneakers in confetti-print leather $7490, Kenzo round-frame acetate sunglasses $2380, Aurélie Bidermann Palazzo rose gold-plated bracelet $2380, 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Minute iridescent textured-leather clutch $3880, L’Agent by Agent Provocateur Clementina embroidered tulle plunge bra $470

These are only a fraction of the new things that have popped up recently in the ready to wear lines which I am seriously lusting for. This isn’t even all of it, I’m about to post up  a bunch of new looks I put together which has stuff I’ve fallen for, hook line and sinker.

Leather jacket season is probably my favourite of all seasons but I am looking forward to seeing more greenery around and to really see the shape of people on the streets (puffer and military jackets have really been done to death this season).

Do tell me what you’ve been lusting for too.

SPRING LOOK

Spring Look

L to R: Izzue “The Modern Lovers” tee, American Eagle “Favorite Boyfriend Jean” (medium destroy) $290, H&M narrow belt $39.90, Venilla Suite Leather oxfords with stud trim toecaps, Accessorize shell heart earrings

This would totally be my work uniform since it’s so comfy (by the way I’m still really into the rolled up boyfriend jean look) and still looks kind of put together. I might actually throw in a flannel shirt depending on the day but a hat is a complete no-no. (side note: this post makes me seem so ready for Valentines Day whoop)

I don’t know why but whenever I get the daunting task to return clothes back after photoshoots, I feel like I have some (obscure) chance to get summoned back by the brand’s PR company as a muse. Completely mistaken since the only people I ever deal with is the wardrobe assistant’s assistant’s assistant (get the picture?). Yet the sheer exhilaration of going to these places make dressing up completely worth it. So many Devil Wears Prada moments and I’ve been there for no more than a week.

My Two Cents

No better time than now than to start working out. For all the people stuck in college, you understand the transformative nature of summer: everyone seems to come back a different person: more tanned, slimmer, fatter , rejuvenated by the trailing of summer vacations abroad or wizened up by some impressive resume-fattening internship.

Personally, I take summer as a time to really enrich myself: physically and mentally – more so physically because it is just easier. In the last month of summer, I have really stepped it up to 4-5 workouts (which include cardio and weights) per week. This has really loosened my favourite sports bra/tank – a blessing for obvious reasons but curse because I really like the way it looks.

Over the years, I have basically done endurance training (the longer on the treadmill, the better right? Fitnessfitnessfitness) but since last year my workouts have been a lot shorter and have yielded similar, if better results. My aerobic fitness has improved as well as my core strength; I can’t say that it is a fitness fad, but it has definitely gotten a lot more popular in the last two years.

The answer for me: HIIT training.

HIIT training is something that I really advocate because it makes things much easier – it feels more like a mental game than a physical game. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) training makes you train hard, in short intervals because in layman’s terms it keeps burning fat after training. HIIT for me has helped burn fat – in the last month or so, I have seen a difference in the circumference in my thighs and butt, waist is definitely more defined, body weight has not shifted too much but I have dropped two dress sizes.

I’m not big on fitness fads because my ultimate goal is a sustainable change but I really feel that adding HIIT into my training has really changed the way I feel.  I feel a lot more spent after my workout however my energy levels are a lot higher and I feel so awake.  It is something I’m incorporating into my workouts in conjunction with endurance training (1-2 times a week). I love the feeling of getting stronger and more energized heading back into uni because it makes me so much more equipped to take on the new year

Healthy Dinners

Healthy Dinners

Been doing a lot of cardio and strength training recently – getting back into fitness and clean eating so I whipped this up for dinner. A whole wheat pasta with skinless chicken thigh, broccoli and with a dash of homemade pesto sauce. This dish is balanced in fibre, protein and low in cholesterol – the ingredients are all well balanced and will help me replenish after a grueling workout and great for regulating my diet. It is also very filling, so is perfect as a hearty meal.

Musical Mondays

I’m still kind of on my romantafreak mode post- Pretty Woman which has inspired me to put up a playlist of music that I find incredibly romantic and sensual. Taken straight off my Sensual playlist, here is some evoking music that plucks my heartstrings everytime the music comes on – which is excellent for when I am working on a piece of art/writing for my significant other [it makes the work better when I’m feeling something as I am creating, I find] or just setting the mood for the night 😉

Let’s just call the picks from this time Sensual Seduction

Avant – Makin’ Good Love
D’Angelo – How Does it Feel
Robin Thicke – It’s in the Mornin’ (ft. Snoop Dogg)
Robin Thicke – Sweetest Love
G.H.E.T.T.O.U.T – Changing Faces
Janis Joplin – Summertime
Buika – Soledad                                         (Honestly, did you think I wouldn’t include some sensuous Latin music?)

Groovy Tuesday

I miss doing musical posts – been listening to a lot of new stuff recently, with most of it being a jazzy-hiphop/ electronic vibe. I just feel like this is such great music to relax to, it always puts my mind at ease and gives me the imagery of a 1930’s classy bar/lounge armed with really cushion-y chairs and a glass of whisky on the rocks in my hand. How very 007 😉 Oh and by the way, I’m listening to this music with a really musky, amber/vanilla scented candle in the background. Bliss, absolute pure bliss.

Without further adieu, my playlist of the night:

1. Benny Freestyles – Benny & The Jetta (Intro)
2. Janoma – Bubbles and Confetti <– this is like an hour long set, perfect set for me to listen to when I’m preparing myself to go out.
3. Celeste Lear – Light Through the Branches
4. Eddie – Chill
5. Kryone – Wild Youth
6. John Legend – Save Room (I will honestly never get sick of this song)
7. Troy K. – Replay Value
8. yoshinori takezawa – Audio Leaf
Enjoy

Musical Mondays

I know that it isn’t Monday yet, but I just wanted to get this list up before Monday actually arrived so that you could start off your week enjoying the same tunes as me. I am also aware that this ‘series’ used to be Groovy Tuesdays but in all honesty, music’s awesome. Doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, music envelopes me; Let’s get started. Recently I have been missing home I feel, been listening to a lot of 70’s and 80’s music that my dad plays in this car (with some adjustments of course), so I will name this “Daddy’s Car Music” playlist:

Seduce Me Tonight – Cycle V
How Do You Like Me Now – The Heavy
Ice Ice Baby – Vanilla Ice
I Can’t Get No Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones
Cocaine – Eric Clapton
Dirty Diana – Michael Jackson

Ha, that’s actually kind of funny. Now that I look at this list of music there are only two songs that are in my dad’s car. Nonetheless that’s where I found my inspiration – I feel like the music is a little dirty and grungy in general, perfect for pumping it up in the morning when you’re dancing around in your underwear and trying to blow dry your hair at the same time (even though I usually opt for more Zen music in the mornings, I like to change it up from time to time).

Hope you enjoy this 😉
